Cülo/Tenement

FINALLY. The splits are finally in and they couldn't be more perfect. You already know what to expect from these bands and I'm not even gonna bother writing a description because you're going to download this regardless. Right? Right.

BETTER GET EM FAST CUZ THEY'RE ALREADY ALMOST GONE!

The color vinyl is fucking beautiful. Hands down the best colored vinyl in my entire collection. Nick had to get this pressed at an entirely different pressing plant than the black vinyl.

Sea Of Shit

THEY BACK AND THEY PISSED. I've been waiting for this record to come out for quite some time. Robby just had to tease us with the tape version first and he even sent me the MP3s before that. So needless to say, I've been anticipating this slab of wax for months. It has lived up to every ounce of my expectations. This thang picks up where their split with SOCIALLY RETARDED (R.I.P.) left off, only it's ten times as pissed and even faster. I gotta say that my favorite part about this record is Robby's vokills; they're too sick. GRINDING VIOLENCE.

Brown Sugar

FUCK YES. This is undoubtedly my favorite record of the year, tied only with the new SPITS LP that just came out. My band was fortunate enough to play with BROWN SUGAR in Indiana last night and for me it was like finally getting to scratch a three year itch. I've been wanting to see these guys for the longest time and it was everything I could've hoped for and more. Honestly one of the most fun live bands I've ever seen. After the release of two 7"s out of nowhere, BROWN SUGAR returns with a full out onslaught incarnated in twelve inches of wax. If yer a true punk you already know what to expect from these goons. I think my favorite song on this has to be "Brown Eyed Girl / Copper Helicopter" or their very interesting rendition of "Blow," which was originally on their notorious Deportation EP. Stop reading this and just fucking listen already.

Vile Nation

Hot damn. This 7" fucking kills me every time I listen to it. This is VILE NATION'S second and final 7" and I must say, what a way to go out. The echo on "No War, No Future" is so fucking perfect and abrasive, it penetrates my ear holes and runs laps in my brain for weeks on end. This record is drastically different than their No Exit EP. The first record seems to have a heavier emphasis on bands like D.R.I. with all the drum cuts and choppy riffs whereas this record is just straight up, cla$$ic 80s hardcore, influenced by bands like GANG GREEN and PUTRID FEVER. This record is red hot, dripping wet.

The Spits

FUCKING FINALLY. The new SPITS wax has finally arrived at my door. It's everything that you would expect from these dudes and more. Kind of a weirdo, spacy mix between THE MISFITS and THE RAMONES. This LP is fucking great (even though I admittedly like Vol. 4 more). My roommate Corey said it best whilst listening to this record for the first time, "Well, it sure sounds like THE SPITS."

Slobs

I apologize for the lack of posting. Great things are still to come. Anyways, this is a six trakk demo of blistering hardcore dished out by Montreal's famed SLOBS. This is most definitely my favorite material yet. That fuckin' guitar tone is KILLING MEH.

Kremlin

Fre$h demo from these Toronto hardcore heartthrobs. This is some straight up blistering, no holds barred 80s hardcore featuring Iconic Ivan of SCHOOL JERKS workin' them skins. His fills are utterly mind blowing. The treble-ridden guitar tone, reminiscent of the FORMALDEHYDE JUNKIES (best band, OBVIOUSLY), and the washed out, reverb drenched vocals make me want to puke all over myself in the best way possible. If you're not already convinced that you need this then your soul simply cannot be saved.

Brown Sugar

First of all, let me get this bit out of the way: this record is a flexi-disc which PISSES ME THE FUCK OFF. It's flimsy, has poor sound quality, the fucking needle plays over the screen printed logo every time the record ends, and not to mention that the whole idea of a flexible record is just fucking retarded. However, the music on this thing is fucking incredible. Hands down the best BROWN SUGAR release to date. Three concise songs with the pizazz and notorious tempo changes that these dudes are known for. On top of all that, the layout/printing is extremely impressive. Upon purchasing this record I was told that it was screen printed something like two or three times. Ridiculously awesome. Feral Kid Records scores yet again.
Edit: I realized that there was a skip in the second song so I made a new rip.

Brown Sugar/Mayday

Fairly new split from one of my absolute favorite current hardcore bands BROWN SUGAR and some band that I've never heard of before called MAYDAY. BROWN SUGAR truly delivers the goods on their side with four tunes in the same vein as their earlier work. MAYDAY's side is too long and, in my opinion, pretty god damn boring. It lacks substance. I honestly don't play their side whenever I spin this. But it's really all okay because the BROWN SUGAR side definitely makes this worth owning.

Razor X Fade

What can I say about this? They're still pissed and still EDGE. The guitar tone that is etched into the grooves of this slab of wax is so piercing and abrasive that it quite literally brings tears to my eyes. In summation: BACK WITH A BANG.

Vile Intent

Brand new 7" from Montreal's powerviolence gods VILE INTENT. These guys are INFEST reborn (and that's coming from someone who lives INFEST). This 7" contains the tracks that were on their summer tour tape that came out about a year ago on side A. Side B contains a five minute instrumental track entitled "Gait Analysis." Everytime I listen to said track I think of "Fetch The Pliers" off of INFEST's classic Slave LP, and that is absolutely fucking righteous. The record ends with a shitstorm of manic distortion and feedback. This one is sure to knock you right on your ass. You need this. I repeat, YOU NEED THIS!!!

Final Conflict

Classic 80s hardcore reissue on Havoc Records. The sleeve indicates that this record was originally released in 1983 by Reflex Records. FINAL CONFLICT, not to be confused with the FINAL CONFLICT from Long Beach, CA, hailed from Minneapolis, MN. Their sound is reminiscent of early 80s New York and Boston hardcore, especially ANTIDOTE and the FU's. This is some really great shit with amazing cover art. GET INTO DIS.
Final Conflict

Brutal Supremacy

Brand new compilation double 7" from Painkiller Records featuring what I like to call the "powerhouses of powerviolence" (I know it's clever, you don't need to tell me): IRON LUNG (3 tracks), MIND ERASER (4 tracks), HATRED SURGE (3 tracks), and SCAPEGOAT (7 tracks). The IRON LUNG side is extremely noisy, similar to their previous work, and at times very slow which eventually leads into the blasting chaos that they're known for. You should know what to expect from these guys by now. I would say that this isn't really their best stuff yet, but it's still pretty good. Next up is MIND ERASER. There's something about these recordings that makes them not so memorable. I think I just don't like the way that they were recorded. Don't get me wrong, I love MIND ERASER and always have, but it seems like they were going for a more lo-fi sound but ended just making these songs sound like crap. Oh well. HATRED SURGE kicks of the A side of the second 7". I don't understand why people like this band so much. It just sounds like shitty metal. Definitely my least favorite recordings on this compilation. But SCAPEGOAT.....oh SCAPEGOAT. These guys just can't seem to fail. They dish out seven filthy, powerful ragers that I could honestly listen to all fucking day and not get tired of. These recordings are extremely lo-fi, reminiscent of their recordings on their Mindrot demo, but just a bit better. They rerecorded three songs from their tour tape and four brand new ragers for this one. Flawless. Absolutely flawless.
Brutal Supremacy

Scapegoat

Just when I thought this band couldn't get any better, they drop this monster of a record right on top of my fucking head. SCAPEGOAT is back, ladies and gentlemen, and they sound as pissed as ever. I ordered this thing off the Painkiller Records webstore the day that it came out. After constantly listening to SCAPEGOAT's previous 7" and tour tape for about a year and a half, it was the very least that I could do. I waited in anticipation for 3 fucking weeks for this thing to arrive at my doorstep and let me tell ya, it was worth every second of the wait. Twenty crushing, manic powerviolence anthems in the vein of CROSSED OUT. This is my favorite release of theirs yet, and it is certainly their most diverse. My favorite part about this record is the fact that they rerecorded most of their flawless tour tape. That and the transparent orange vinyl. HAMMATIME.

City Limits: Down And Out In Toronto & Montreal

KILLER new comp that I picked up earlier today at Reckless. This is quite obviously a top-tier compilation of some of Canada's finest hardcore troupes. There are some tracks on this that really fucking bite (like INEPSY and BURNING LOVE), but the good songs totally outweigh the bad. After looking at the back of the record, I immediately knew that I had to pick it up after seeing that SCHOOL JERKS, MAD MEN, and VILE INTENT were on it. Some more highlights from this comp include tracks from CAREER SUICIDE, BAD CHOICE, URBAN BLIGHT, SLOBS, and OMEGAS. Need I say more?

The Ropes

The Ropes make a triumphant return with this incredible lil piece of wax. Herein they dish out six tracks of filthy, lo-fi hardcore the way it's supposed to be done. Aaron's voice sounds better than ever. The vocals on "Valium Cocoon" literally send shivers down my spine. These tracks are definitely faster than the ones featured on the demo. Let's just say you could slap the name "THE REPOS" on the cover and no one would know the difference. Do yourself a big favor and get this.

School Jerks

This is by far the best School Jerks release yet. The vocals are so incredibly snotty, they make me want to spit in my teacher's face and burn down my school, not to mention the treble-ridden, hollowed out guitar tone accompanying said ferocity. The opening cut, entitled "Screamer," sets the tone perfectly for the rest of the record with its fucking head-pounding breaks. Every track on this is a total rager, I promise.

Criaturas

This band fucking rips! Criaturas is a female-fronted hardcore band hailing from Austin, Texas. The vocals are astoundingly distinct in the respect that they go from screaming and yelling to straight out singing at some parts. In addition to this, all the lyrics are in Spanish (WHICH FUCKING RULES). The songs on here are heavily influenced by 80s hardcore, and I sense a hint of D-Beat here and there. Really fucking great stuff, I highly recommend it.

Amdi Petersens Armé

So let me preface this entry by saying that I am truly sorry for the lack of posting. My life has gotten rather hectic lately with school/moving out/all my bands. Posting will gradually start to pick up, I PROMISE. And what better way to make a comeback with the best Danish hardcore band ever? Amdi Petersens Armé (RIP) delivers some RAGING 80's influenced hardcore with quite a fuckin attitude. Their second and final EP, Blod Ser Mere Virkeligt Ud På Film, definitely packs more of a punch than their earlier material, but all of it is equally as killer. These guys date back to the late 90's/early 2000's. Absolutely, positively my current favorite band. I seriously don't want to talk to you if you don't get all of this right fucking now.

Birth Deformities

So this is my first post in a month or so. I figured it would be fitting to dedicate it to some shameless self-promotion. Birth Deformities is a brand new band that I am fortunate enough to be a member of. I play bass alongside some other pretty radical dudes, although I didn't play on these recordings. This band takes on more of a classic punk sound. Most of the songs are mid-tempo, whereas others have more of an abrasive, hardcore feel to them. Nonetheless, one fucking solid demo when it comes down to it. We'll be playing shows in the very near future, so BE PREPARED.

Japanese Women

This tape fucking rules! Japanese Women dish out nine tracks of demented, fuzzed-out, mid-tempo hardcore. This band sounds like the bastard child of Black Flag and Total Abuse. Now I realize that pretty much every other band in the history of hardcore has been compared to Black Flag in some way or another, but this time I really mean it. The vocals couldn't be more fitting for the music; they're snobby, distorted, hoarse, and downright bitter. These guys are really fucking unique. I haven't really come across any bands like this in quite some time. Get this or DIE POSING.

The Ropes

Here is an EXCLUSIVE unreleased track that was not featured on the demo tape that was released several days ago. I apologize for removing the link to the demo, but the dudes from the band didn't want it posted. I respect that. However, Joe from The Ropes did me a solid and hooked me up with this killer track. If you were into the demo, there's no doubt that this song will MELT YER FUCKING FACE OFF. Enjoy, mutants.

Positive Noise/Xtra Vomit

It's really awesome when both of your current favorite bands do a split with each other. When I saw this record in a distro and didn't have enough money for it, I got so frustrated, scared that maybe it wouldn't be around the next day. I finally got the ca$h for it and since my purchase, I've been playing both sides nonstop. Xtra Vomit is like if youth crew was faster and more punk, with furious fucking vocals. Positive Noise is a fucking hardcore attack, with drumming similar to Larm, heavy guitars, and sloppy yet pissed off vocals. Ryan's vocals on this sound pretty different than on past Positive Noise releases, they're really low-pitched. Both of these bands have really great messages and lyrics. The cover for the record is hand screened and looks fucking sweet, and it comes with two inserts: the first is Positive Noise lyrics over a picture of them playing live and EVERY single member of Cülo singing along, pretty rad. The second is a letter from the record label thanking you for buying the record and so on. The only goofy part about this record is that the Positive Noise side is played at 45 and the Xtra Vomit side is played at 33. I didn't even know that was possible. Anyways, an overall killer fucking release.

Low Threat Profile

So I was looking for records on the INTERNET (like a true punk) and the moment I saw this my heart started beating outta my fucking chest. I had no idea that this existed and after worshiping Low Threat Profile's debut 7" for roughly a year, I purchased this slab of wax without even giving it a second thought. This band features members of INFEST, No Comment, and Lack of Interest. On that note you should already know what to expect from this powerviolence behemoth: grinding and resonant guitars, a thick, heavy bass tone, and blast beats that stop on a fucking dime. My favorite part about this band is the drummer (Bob from Lack Of Interest). He's too fucking solid. The back of the sleeve indicates that the music was recorded in the fall of 2000 and that the vocals were recorded in the summer of 2010. Admittedly I did enjoy the 7" more than this record, but this is still one of my favorite LP's of 2011 thus far (although it may have just barely been released in 2010). Get this, dummy.

Cülo

First demo from Chicago maniacs Cülo. These guys are without a doubt the best band in Chicago at the moment. This demo didn't gain too much popularity for some reason, but I personally love it. It's more lo-fi than other Cülo releases being their demo, but it kills nonetheless. I feel like it's easier to hear the lack of bass on these tracks more so than on their other releases, not that that's necessarily a bad thing. Get this and find out for yourself, nerd.

TUCK TIL DEATH

Manipulation

I picked this up last at the show as well. Manipulation is always a pleasure to see. I was really anticipating this record and I had high expectations for it, and it exceeded pretty much every single god damned one of them. It's a fucking ripper to say the least. Manipulation returns with four new songs and a re-recorded version of "Deathwatch," which was originally featured on their demo. If you don't already know who these guys are you've been living under a fucking rock.

The Ropes

I was very fortunate to pick this sucker up at the Manipulation record release show last night along with the legendary and infamous "Hearts And Heads Explode" and if you ask me, it's about fucking time. This tape, featuring the exact same members of The Repos, pretty much picks up where "Hearts And Heads" left off. The main difference is that there are a few more slower songs on this than on past Repos releases. However, the original intensity is still present; the powerful and rapid drumming, the blasting guitar riffs (with a fucking excellent tone), and my personal favorite part, the menacing vocals. They simply cannot be topped by any other hardcore vocalist. The more and more I listen to this the more it pulls me in. I listened to it at least six times on the car ride home.

The Outs

BRAND fucking new demo tape from these Indiana/Chicago hardcore goons. When I say brand new, I mean released about five minutes ago. This tape is so solid, I listened to it once and was immediately hooked. This is female-fronted, manic, real hardcore with no pretensions. It's very straight forward and in your face. Don't be fooled by the label "hardcore" though, these guys (and lady) know how to slow it down into some insanely tight grooves. Their rendition of "Rebel Girl," originally by Bikini Kill, is probably my favorite track on this thing. Stop posing and GET THIS.
